“Good company, good wine, good welcome can make good people”
William Shakespeare, 1613
"Parting is such sweet sorrow"…another classic Shakespearian quote from the play Romeo and Juliette, a tragic love story, but the sentiment rings true for me.
Back in high school, way, way back, being forced to read Shakespeare felt like an extreme form of literary torture. The Coles notes, inexpensive, flimsy paper back cheater guides, purchased at the Coles book stores and designed to make 15th century writing easy to understand, were also a challenge to get through.
I only recently really started to appreciate his writing, along with the awareness that our modern society continues to use and quote his words, or at least some mash up of them, on a regular basis.
Leaving Banff and finally heading home is sweet because we had a fantastic visit, our kids are good, very good, pats on our collective backs for a job well done, and, it was an adventure getting there. Plus, no one died! also sweet.
Sorrow, because it is tough to leave those you love. Missing them is not easy.
We decide to take the Canadian route home, driving almost exclusively on the Trans Canada Hwy, the "TC" as it is commonly referred to. Why do we feel the need to shorten everything? Even the simple “hello” has been distilled down to “hey”. Are we really that rushed for time? Mr. Shakespheare would have said "Good dawning to thee, friend", 15th century folks had lots of time for words. The much shorter "hello" was not used until the 1800's.
Canada’s national highway stretches from Victoria British Columbia to St Johns Newfoundland, winding its way through a total of 10 provinces. We passed through only 4 and take 4 full days to get home, making sure to fully enjoy the last of our stops.

Travelling as we have for the past month really gets under your skin, (a phrase which can have both positive and negative connotation, ours is positive) the appeal now firmly planted within our DNA. We love being on the road, discovering new places and the anticipation of what was next.
The RV community has had a wonderfully infectious effect. Most always the encounters and stays have been friendly, relaxing, when needed, helpful and always interesting. We enjoyed many, many "friendquaintances" along the way.
Eventually, home and responsibility calls us back, as does the desire to reconnect with family and friends.
It will take awhile to adjust and in the mean time, we will be planning the next adventure.
I have purposely not mentioned the cat, or cats. I am choosing to have a few cat free moments!
“Adieu, adieu, adieu! Remember me" , or, as the cool kids say, see ya!

I highly recommend Hamnet &Judith by Maggie O’Farrrell. She is a superb writer. The story centres around the children of Shakespeare and his early years as a husband (married at 18) father and up and coming playwright. The story is set in the year 1580 but don’t let that discourage you, this is NOT high school English class.
Until I write again, Cheers!
