Hello!! I am back and I finding it impossible to feel anything but positive on this beautiful Friday morning. Yesterday was our first day on the road, leaving Jupiter Florida and travelling approximately 300 miles to the quaint little beach town of Cedar key.
Cedar Key is unique. Tucked away and almost hidden if you don’t know where to look. As Florida’s second oldest town, it has a rich and well worn history. Like an old man weathered from years of outdoor living and many storms, Cedar key doesn’t hide who or what it is, and that is what makes it so appealing. Plus, the sunsets are really beautiful. It is a great place for a night or two and the TIKI bar just outside of town has definitely earned a spot in my top10.
So, the cats were purrrfect! While we drive they are contained in their pet taxi, an extra large cat carrier roomy enough for two. Once we had arrived and setup at the Cedar Key RV park, I put Autumn on his leash and took him outside for a look around. Damn if he wasn’t just chill about it all and continued to be well behaved for the entire time we were there. Is it possible that I may not hate my cat after all? Too early for that thought.
Listen, if you have ever lived with someone, or worked with someone or had that “friend”, that someone who you would always be walking on egg shells around, for me, that is my cat Autumn. He is smart, he’s sneaky and he knows just how to make me crazy. He keeps me on egg shells about 85% of the time.
My husband John on the other hand, the “before I had a cat, I was only a dog person” person. John LOVES Autumn and no matter what shit that cat pulls, he is always forgiven and there is always an excuse ready to be handed out. Cats have 9 lives and Autumn has 1000 excuses. And so I walk on egg shells and John just loves him up. And yep, that smart cat knows who loves him unconditionally and who might be ready to take him for a long walk on a short plank!
Today we are driving to Pensacola Beach Florida. It will be close to a 7 hour journey and one of the longer legs of our trip. This will be a good test to see just how well behaved the cats continue to be after 7 hours without food and too much time in the taxi.
We have been to this area of Florida before but not to the place we will be staying for 2 nights. The Florida panhandle, you may not have know, is often and unkindly referred to as the redneck riviera. That being said, and somewhat true, what it lacks in fine dining, boujee shopping and cultural events, it more than makes up for with gorgeous white sand beaches and aquamarine blue water. Plus, If you are lucky enough and time it right, you can experience both sunrise and sunset from the exact same location…
Until I write again, Cheers
